League format : Soccer / Football : England : Premier League 2010/2011

The English Premier League (EPL) is probably one of the most popular football competitions in the world. The current format of the Premiership was created in 1995, when the number of clubs was reduced from twenty-two to twenty. Each team plays against all the other teams in the league twice, for a total of 38 matches for each team per season. The number of points scored in the season determines the position of teams in the table.
At the end of the campaign, the top two teams in the English Premier League qualify directly for the group stage of the Champions League, while the third and fourth placed teams play the qualifying rounds. The fifth and sixth placed teams qualify for the UEFA Cup, along with the FA Cup and the League Cup winners. The three bottom teams in the Premiership table are relegated to the Football League Championship. The Football League Championship winners and runners-up are promoted automa
